Korean Cream Cheese Garlic Bread Recipe (Viral Bakery Style)

Korean Cream Cheese Garlic Bread Recipe (Viral Bakery Style)

Some recipes go viral for good reason. Korean cream cheese garlic bread is one of them. Soft, pull-apart buns stuffed with a sweet, tangy cream cheese filling and dunked in buttery garlic custard before baking. The outside turns golden and crisp. The inside stays pillowy and oozing with warm cheese. Sweet, salty, garlicky, and creamy in a single bite.

What started as a Korean street food sensation has found its way into home kitchens worldwide, and it works beautifully with ingredients already available in Indian bakeries. You do not need to bake bread from scratch. A packet of soft buns and a block of good cream cheese are all it takes.

What Makes Korean Garlic Bread Different

Regular garlic bread is butter and garlic on toast. Korean garlic bread is an entirely different experience. The buns are scored deeply, filled with a lightly sweetened cream cheese spread, then submerged in a savoury garlic butter custard. The custard soaks into every crevice, and when the buns hit the oven, the exterior crisps while the cream cheese melts into a warm, tangy filling.

Crisp outside, soft inside. Sweet and salty. Creamy and garlicky. Once you have had one, you understand the hype.

    What You Need

    The Buns

Use soft brioche buns, pav, or any round dinner roll with a tender crumb. Avoid crusty bread; you need something that absorbs the garlic butter without turning tough. If your buns are very fresh and soft, let them sit uncovered for an hour or two to firm up slightly before cutting.

    The Cream Cheese Filling

    • Cream Cheese (225 grams, softened to room temperature)
    • Sweetened condensed milk (2 to 3 tablespoons, adjusted to taste)
    • A pinch of salt

Mix until smooth and transfer to a piping bag or a sturdy Ziploc bag with the corner snipped.

    The Garlic Butter Custard

    • Butter (100 grams, melted)
    • Minced garlic (2 to 3 tablespoons)
    • Milk (2 tablespoons)
    • Condensed milk (1 tablespoon)
    • One beaten egg
    • Dried parsley (1 tablespoon)
    • Paprika (half a teaspoon)
    • Salt (half a teaspoon)

Whisk everything together in a wide bowl.

    The Topping

A generous sprinkle of grated Parmesan Cheese over each bun before baking adds a savoury, nutty crust.

How to Make Korean Cream Cheese Garlic Bread

    Step 1: Score the Buns

    • Using a sharp serrated knife, make four deep cuts into each bun, going about three-quarters of the way down.Β
    • The bun should stay connected at the base.Β
    • Two cuts in a cross pattern, then two diagonal cuts, creating six to eight sections that fan open like a flower.

Step 2: Fill With Cream Cheese

    • Pipe the Cream Cheese filling into every crevice of each scored bun.Β
    • Be generous but not excessive; you want cheese in every bite without it spilling out during baking.Β
    • Add a small swirl of filling on top of each bun for presentation.

Step 3: Dunk in Garlic Butter

    • Carefully dip each filled bun into the garlic butter custard, turning to coat both sides.Β
    • One to two seconds per side is enough.Β
    • The bun should absorb the custard without becoming soggy. Place on a parchment-lined baking tray.
    • Use a pastry brush to dab any garlic pieces that have sunk to the bottom of the bowl onto the tops of the buns.

    Step 4: Top and Bake

    • Sprinkle grated Parmesan Cheese over each bun.
    • Bake at 180 degrees Celsius for 12 to 15 minutes until the buns are golden, aromatic, and the cream cheese is visibly bubbling at the edges.
    • Serve warm. Pull apart with your hands.

    Variations Worth Trying

    • Add a teaspoon of chilli flakes to the garlic butter for a spicy version
    • Swap the parmesan topping for grated Mozzarella Cheese for Pizza for a stretchier, cheesier crust
    • Use mini pav buns for bite-sized party portions
    • For an eggless version, skip the egg in the custard; the butter and milk will carry the flavour

    Storage and Reheating

    • Leftover buns keep in the refrigerator for two days.Β
    • Reheat in the oven at 170 degrees Celsius for five minutes, or in an air fryer for two to three minutes. Avoid the microwave; it softens the crust.Β
    • For make-ahead convenience, freeze baked buns individually in sealed bags for up to a month.

    Worth the Hype

Not every viral recipe lives up to its reputation. Korean cream cheese garlic bread does. When the buns are soft, the cream cheese is tangy, and the garlic butter has soaked into every fold, the result is something genuinely special.

The RRO Dairy range makes this easy. Cream Cheese brings the rich, tangy filling, Parmesan Cheese adds savoury depth on top, and the full RRO Dairy collection gives your kitchen everything it needs for baking that impresses.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What bread works best for this recipe?

Soft brioche buns or Indian pav work best. Any round, tender dinner roll will do. Avoid crusty or dense breads; they do not absorb the garlic butter custard properly.

Can I make this without an oven?

A convection microwave or OTG set to 180 degrees Celsius will work. Air fryers can also handle individual buns at 170 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Watch closely to avoid burning.

Why is my cream cheese filling runny?

Use full-fat block cream cheese, not spreadable tubs or reduced-fat versions. Soften the block to room temperature before mixing, but do not melt it. Add condensed milk gradually until the filling holds its shape.

Can I skip the egg in the garlic butter?

Yes. The egg adds a custard-like richness to the coating, but the recipe works without it. The butter, milk, and garlic carry the flavour on their own.

How far ahead can I prepare these?

Assemble the filled and dunked buns up to a few hours before baking. Keep them covered in the refrigerator and bake when your guests arrive for warm, fresh bread.

Can I use this cream cheese filling in other recipes?

Absolutely. The sweetened cream cheese filling works as a spread on toast, a filling for crepes, or a dip for fruit. Keep leftover filling refrigerated and use within two days.
