PHYSIQUE 57 – SCULPTING BODIES CHANGING LIVES

Mallika Tarkas Parekh spent her career studying and researching medical science, helping hospitals in America implement best practice management principles and increase clinical efficiency, and understands the importance of staying fit and healthy to prevent illness in later life.

Dedicated to the science of preventative health care, along with her husband Aditya Parekh, she founded Valiance Healthcare System, a company aimed at offering India best in class specialized, disease-focused hospitals.

Through her research on local healthcare for Valiance, Parekh realized the lack of emphasis on bone and muscle health inIndian culture and medicine. A disconcerting discovery given that Indians have a lower bone density than most other populations worldwide. Parekh noticed that anti-aging trends in India focus on skincare regimens, cosmetic procedures, diet and internal cleansing but don’t always highlight the importance of healthy bone and muscle. She knew then, that Physique 57’s revolutionary fitness method would have a place in India, beginning in Mumbai.

Physique 57 is an internationally renowned fitness company with luxurious studios in New York, Hamptons, Beverly Hills, Dubai, and Bangkok. Brought to India by Physique 57 patron and healthcare veteran Mallika Tarkas Parekh, the brand opened its first studio in April 2018 at the Four Seasons Hotel, Mumbai.

Physique 57’s signature barre-based method blends the most effective elements of cardio, strength training and stretching to redefine your body from the very first visit. A New York City fitness favourite since 2006, with its sold out classes and cult following, Physique 57 sparked the ballet barre exercise craze. With visible results in just 8 classes, it seems only natural for the brand to have a roster of celebrity clients including Reese Witherspoon, Demi Moore, Chrissy Teigen, Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio, and Denise Richards to name a few.

Speaking about the launch, Mallika Tarkas Parekh, the founder and director of Physique 57 Mumbai said, ”When I lived in New York, I was committed to the Physique 57 classes. The method is unlike any workout I had ever done before. When I moved to Mumbai, I was determined to launch it in India because I strongly believe in the health benefits of this method specifically relevant to Indian bodies and bone structure. After a great deal of planning and research, I am thrilled to be launching the first studio in Mumbai. In January 2017, we did a market test by introducing approximately 200 people to the workout and each one of them had a glowing review to share. With its tremendous success in other parts of the world, I am confident that the workout will truly inspire clients to achieve their healthiest body ever.”

The studio launched with a team of five internationally trained instructors who received over 250 hours of intense training from Physique 57’s elite instructor training team in New York City that has a combined total of over 50 years of teaching experience.

The signature Physique 57 class

Each 57-minute group class combines the best of proven interval training techniques, then kicks their effectiveness up a notch. The workout uses your own body weight as resistance to target and overload muscles to the point of fatigue, and then stretch them for relief. This ground breaking process is called Interval Overload. Physique 57’s version includes muscle-defining arm exercises, intense thigh and seat sequences, waist-chiselling ab moves and fluid stretches to heat up (and cinch) every inch.
